This video shows the processes and techniques Lindsay alder goes through, this specific one shows the poses she gets the model to hold which help define the models features and help them look their pest. She in her shoots has a story behind the photos , for his shot the woman had just walked out from a club and stopped to view her reflection is a nearby mirror. The neon lights pared with the black background help portray this and make it come of as the lights from the club are shining down at her at night. This shoot showed strong elements of colour from the colour gel lights, harmony from the contrasting yet connected colures and emphasis due to the lights defining the highlights and shadows on the models face. It can be noticed that the choice of makeup clearly contrasts with the models skin tone defining her facial features. She later shows a diagram in which tell us the exact angles used to create these images mentioning the 5 and 20 degree angles used. Her idea to spray the scene with water created the freshly raining look and added more depth to her story.

this is a diagram of the lighting setup used to create the images within the reflections shoot, you can see she uses a variety that make a mysterious theme for the photos. this is an example of her sharing her techniques which is a rare occurrence in the photography world.

Lindsay had done taking photos with the regular setup and decided to add more dramatic effect to the story and the photos, she would spray water on the setup and make it appear to of rained. This created the moody atmosphere so commonly seen in her work.
|
this is the result of her shoot, you can see the effect the colour get lighting had on the images and how it sets the mood. the water is visible on the mirror also reflecting some of the light in it . the make up look created correlated with the story and harmonises nicely with the rest of the shoot.

Lindsay Adler did a colour gel shadow shoot were she got colour sheets and shone a light through them, projecting them onto the models face. this method show strong elements of photography such as colour shape emphasis harmony and geometric shapes, these factors all tie together to make this dramatically coloured and contrasted shoot. the choice of makeup played a large role in this process due to the coordinating colours in a

I firstly used Auto pop to start off with a crisp base image, this sharpened the pixels around her face and gave me that extra detail needed. The models hair had been slightly blurry and I thought the editing process will also need sharp details to be able to last through the rest of the editing needed. The other steps can dim down the sharpness so I started of making it as clear as I can.
|
I then edited the highlights and shadows because I disliked the view of the background since I believe that it blend in with the face too much making it hard to distinguish the models features from the same light coloured background. I increased the highlights since the model would be the only highlighted thing then decreased the shadows to melt the background off of the model, this makes the image seem more 3D and moody
|
I then decided to turn up the vibrance as much as I could because I felt the red contouring on the models face was shrinking and becoming less visible and less noticeable, I wanted the red shade to be the most individual feature of the photo since it added the main definition to the photo without a lot of black.
|
I focused on the red factor of the image and decided to add a pink tint to the colour since it made the colour seem more vibrant, I also increases the saturation because I wanted it be easily seen that the red/pink colour is another light.
|
During this shoot I experienced a few dilemmas in the process, I had trouble with the angles of light and which direction they were shining from, this was easily solved by getting the model to hold the lights which helped created the sharp defined look contrasted by the two coloured leds. I chose such opposite colours in hopes that my editing process would be more controlled since similar colours tend to blend in with each other and don't show much difference. I think this decision was perfect because I was able to edit the colour and their vibrancy individually without pixelating the lights.

''Sometimes I have a great idea for an animation in the shower or walking down the street. Other days I just doodle in the computer, letting the happy accidents happen.'' |
''The principal thing is the question of how our culture views age: that old is ugly. Take a photographer like Mapplethorpe. Every single photograph of his is about classical notions of beauty, of young beautiful black men, young beautiful women, and he selects subjects who are essentially interesting and good-looking and extremely physical. I can't stand them.'' |
''I wish to blur the firm boundaries which we self-certain people tend to delineate around all we can achieve'' |
''Be who you are and what you are; for if you think of what others think of you, you will become what others think of you'' |
